What Is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a completely natural state of mind, you have been in spontaneous hypnosis many times in your life without realising it! If you are a driver and drive regularly on a familiar route, you have probably experienced arriving at your destination without conscious memory of portions of your journey – this phenomenon is simply a light state of self-induced hypnosis (don’t worry - if something untoward were to happen the normal response of your subconscious would be to leap into action in a nanosecond to bring you back into full awareness to deal with it!).
In a clinical setting it is simply a very comfortable and relaxed state which enables me to help you resolve your problems more quickly and effectively than would be possible in a normal waking state. I have yet to work with a client who did not love the state of hypnosis and the relaxation it brings.
Hypnosis is a reliable and safe therapeutic technique which is centuries old and it is recognised by many branches of orthodox medicine as a valuable tool to complement drugs and help manage pain. In fact in recent years even open heart surgery has been performed using hypnosis instead of conventional anaesthesia! This is not as new and innovative as it sounds as in the 19th century, before modern anaesthesia, a surgeon by the name of James Esdaile was successfully performing surgery using hypnosis.
Whilst you enjoy the pleasant state of hypnosis you will not be ‘surrendering your will to mine’ nor can I make you do anything you don’t want to – you will always maintain control as hypnosis is a voluntary state. You will remember the session afterwards and will be aware of your surroundings, yourself and what you are saying and doing at all times .
I enjoy working with a wide range of problems, in fact I probably work with more mind-body related problems than you might think! So if you want help with something not mentioned here or are unsure about anything or want to ask me any questions please do feel free to phone or e-mail me for more information.
