Pam Segal Hypnotherapy & Holistic Health

Even though hypnosis and hypnotherapy can’t cure everything, it is effective in many more areas than most people realise and because it is holistic it can work successfully alongside ‘standard’ medicine or other complementary therapies.

Doctors are increasingly becoming aware of the benefits hypnotherapy has to offer – according to an article in ‘Gut’ magazine (the leading international journal in gastroenterology) hypnotherapy is the most effective treatment for IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) with ‘seven out of ten patients with the chronic condition improved as a result of the treatment’.  (The treatment they are referring to is one of my specialisations and was taught to me by the people in the clinical trial they are referring to).

Also doctors are also starting to refer patients suffering from anxiety (including anxiety attacks/panic attacks) for hypnotherapy, as the success rates for most areas of anxiety are impressive.  I treat anxiety of all types from driving test nerves all the way up to major panic attacks/anxiety attacks and am proud to say that I don’t know a single more effective treatment for panic attacks/anxiety attacks than analytical hypnotherapy.

There are different forms of hypnotherapy and I usually use two very distinct forms, suggestion therapy and analytical therapy.

Suggestion Therapy
Suggestion therapy is perfect for helping to cope with life’s smaller problems, things which don’t have deep roots like things as examination fears, driving test nerves, performance anxiety, nail biting and confidence boosting.  It is also a very effective method of helping people to stop smoking as easily and painlessly as possible.

Analytical Therapy
Analytical therapy is the most effective treatment for deep-rooted problems.  Using analytical techniques we work together to uncover and resolve the underlying causes of such things as panic attacks, anxiety, IBS, fears & phobias, emotional problems, relationship difficulties, psycho-sexual problems, low self esteem, insomnia, jealousy and numerous other problems where deep-seated psychological factors may be involved.  The treatment will normally be between seven and ten sessions held weekly or fortnightly which will usually produce complete and lasting relief from your symptoms.

Medical Hypnotherapy

Increasingly the medical profession is using hypnotherapy for conditions like IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), ME (Chronic Fatigue), anxiety and panic attacks.  Women often make the decision to decide to have their babies easily and naturally using hypnosis for analgesia or anaesthesia or to use hypnosis to help reduce the discomforts of pregnancy safely & easily.  People suffering chronic pain from a multitude of diseases like arthritis or cancer can be offered hypnosis to help them control their own pain and reduce their anxiety.  While sometimes, when people need to take essential drugs with unpleasant side effects, hypnosis can help their bodies assimilate those drugs more easily without so that the side effects are kept to an absolute minimum.

The Mind/Body Connection & Physical Illness

Apart from the type of problems listed specifically on this website my personal area of interest is the interaction of the mind and body and how the roots of our physical illnesses often lie in our life experiences and emotions.  Some of these connections are fairly well known in illnesses such as chronic fatigue syndrome (ME) or fibromyalgia, but often the roots of other physical problems can lie in our psyche (arthritis can be about repressed anger and lack of flexibility, leg and foot problems can be about fear of moving forward) so if you have a physical problem you would like to discuss please feel free to get in touch – it doesn’t cost anything to ask!

Individual Treatment

I have earned my living as an analytical hypnotherapist since 2001 (in fact I believe I was the first hypnotherapist to set up in practice in the Basildon area), so you can rest assured that whatever your problem is I have probably already treated dozens of people for very similar conditions and problems.

One size does not fit all in my practice – I will treat you as an individual and bring my experience to bear in tailoring your treatment to suit you, your way of being and your particular set of life challenges.

I enjoy working with a wide range of problems, in fact I probably work with more mind-body related problems than you might think!  So if you want help with something not mentioned here or are unsure about anything or want to ask me any questions please do feel free to phone or e-mail me for more information.
